Arsenal were defeated 2-0 by Brentford in their season opener last year. After the game, Brentford striker Ivan Toney took to social media, writing, ‘Nice kick about with the boys.’
This did not sit well with Mikel Arteta, who displayed the said tweet on his tactics board six months later to motivate his players ahead of a rematch at the Emirates.
His tactics may appear ‘old school’, but they were effective as Arsenal defeated Brentford 2-1 at the Emirates.
Alexander Lacazette, like Toney, returned the favor by writing the same on his Twitter handle.
Here is what was revealed in the most recent episode of Amazon’s documentary All or Nothing:
Before I go, because it’s still in my stomach and I have managed to keep it for four months, five months, six months.
He said as he points to the tweet on the screen.
This is Toney after the game when we played at Brentford. You know what he did? You know his tweet? Nice kick about with the boys this afternoon.
