Bristol City, an English Championship club, has appointed Ghanaian-born Anita Asante as first team coach for the 2022/23 season.

After finishing her 19-year professional career at the end of the 2021/2022 Women’s Premier League season, the former British footballer of Ghanaian descent joins Bristol City as coach.

Asante had an incredible career, winning the quadruple with Arsenal in 2017, as well as making 71 appearances for England and competing in the 2012 Olympics for Great Britain.

After earning her UEFA B coaching badge, Asante joins the Bristol City coaching staff.

The ex-footballer, who last played for Aston Villa before retiring, will work alongside Bristol City head coach Lauren Smith.

Last season, Bristol City women finished third in the Championship under head coach Lauren Smith. The club hopes to qualify for the top flight in the coming season.
