Arsenal decided to wear black armbands against Chelsea in memory of Maria Petri, who died.
Arsenal players and staff payed their respects to legendary fan Maria Petri, who died recently by wearing black armbands during the Chelsea encounter.
Maria was a regular at Arsenal games at all levels for many years, whether it was for the men’s, women’s, or U23 sides, with her voice instantly recognisable at Highbury and later at the Emirates Stadium following the 2006 move. But then came the bad news on Friday.
A club statement on Friday read:
Rarely can it be said that ‘games just won’t be the same’ without a supporter, but Maria’s presence, her legendary ‘Come on You Gunners!’ and many, many supportive songs created over the decades, will truly leave a void on matchdays at Emirates Stadium, Meadow Park and at away matches wherever we are playing.
