The club came into existence in 1905. Gus Mears was the founder of Chelsea football club. It all started when he acquired the Stamford Bridge Athletics stadium with the aim of turning it into a football ground. He tried leasing the stadium to Fulham but the club wasn’t interested.
Due to this he then decided to create his own team so as to occupy the empty stadium. And by so doing Chelsea Fc was formed. In it’s initial years, Chelsea was known as adjacent borough of Chelsea.
After the creation, Gus Mears tried getting Chelsea to play in the southern league, but the move failed. So he decided to apply for the football league instead. The football league accepted them and placed them in the second division.

It took Chelsea football club 50 solid years to win their very first league title. This came in 1955 under then manager Ted Drake. Ironically, Ted Drake was a former player of Arsenal. Drake used to shake each players hands and wish them luck prior to every match.
Chelsea at the time loved to sign star players and often the star signings failed to make any serious impact. So Ted Drake saw the need to build on youth and academy graduates. His training style was also different. He introduced ball work, which was actually rare in England back then.
