Xhaka was stripped of the captaincy under Unai Emery’s regime following an altercation with Arsenal fans.

The captaincy was then handed over to Aubameyang, who was later stripped of it and sent to Barcelona. Many have referred to Arsenal’s captaincy issues as a “curse.”

The position was temporarily held by French forward Alexander Lacazette before he moved to Lyon this window.

Martin Odegaard is the club’s new captain at the moment. As quoted by football.london, Zhaka stated that “the captain’s armband is not something he needs or believes in.”

He said:

Of course, you don’t need it. Everyone can see the leaders in this team. Of course, you need a captain for the team when we need him.

But I don’t believe a lot in the armband. At the moment I have a feeling that it’s not only one but a lot of people who are so good in this team who can speak with, and they will help you. This is what makes a big difference at the moment.
