Former Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit reveals regret over his decision to join Chelsea after his stint with Barcelona.
The former left Highbury for Barcelona in 2000 after spending 3 seasons at Arsenal.
But after a year in Spain, he decided to return to England and was contacted by then manager Arsene Wenger who tried to convince him to join his side once again.
However, Petit declined Wenger’s offer and eventually joined Chelsea. A decision he now openly admits he regrets.
As quoted by FourFourTwo he stated:
“I spoke to Arsene. He really wanted me back, but I was honest with him: I said, ‘I appreciate it and it’s very tempting, but I didn’t feel that you wanted me to stay when I signed for Barcelona a year ago”.
“It’s like divorcing somebody: when you don’t feel desired by them, what’s the point of going back?”
“She [His wife] wanted to go back to London – she didn’t want to live in Manchester – so I made the same mistake twice in one year.”
