‘It was his favourite club’: Axel Witsel regrets never joining Arsenal, says his dad

Axel Witsel’s father revealed in an interview that his son regrets not joining Arsenal, his boyhood club.

Witsel has had a ‘good’ career, having played in countries like Belgium, Portugal, Russia, China,Germany, and Spain.

He is currently playing for Atletico Madrid and appeared in their Champions League loss to Club Brugge yesterday.

Arsenal were interested in him during his time with Standard Liège in Belgium, but a deal never materialised.

Thierry, his father, admitted it was one of his son’s regrets. He spoke to Het Belang van Limburg:

I can name a series, you know.

Juventus failed in the last hours of a transfer market, but when he was still playing for Standard, Arsenal knocked on the door.

That was his favourite team, but it didn’t come to a deal.
