7x world champion Lewis Hamilton could be expelled from the British Grand Prix as the row over wearing jewellery in the cockpit reaches boiling point.

This comes after Nelson Piquet was banned from Formula One for life for using the n-word about the seven-time world champion.

Hamilton has refused to adhere to the FIA’s ban on using jewelry in the cockpit and could be barred from competing at the Grand Prix.

Nose jewelry still visible

The grace period with regards to wearing jewellery expires today, and yet Hamilton seems not to be bothered. He still retains his contentious nose stud. The FIA have made their stands known and are not backing down, either.

FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem insists the rule is an important safety for the sport and no one would be given a special treatment. All racers must abide to the rule or face expulsion.

If Ben Sulayem is not talked into a compromise position, Hamilton could either be fined or, in the extreme be prevented from racing.
