Majeed Ashimeru scores in Anderlecht’s first league opener and dedicates goal to Fans

Majeed Ashimeru of Ghana expressed his delight after scoring in Anderlecht’s opening-day triumph over KV Ostende.

Ashimeru scored just before halftime, and the Purple and Whites cruised to a 2-0 victory. The midfielder took to his socials to post:

Excited to open the goal account in our very first game of the season. Thanks to the fans for always cheering us on . The goal is dedicated to you all

The 24-year-old scored a stunning low finish in the 39th minute to put his team ahead at Lotto Park. On 88 minutes, Sebastiano Esposito came off the bench to score the game-winning goal.

Ashimeru, who was given a starting role, was making his competitive debut after his season was cut short due to injuries previous season.

The Ghana international has already indicated that he is eager to improve on his statistics from last season, in which he scored three goals and assisted three times in 31 league outings.
