Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s newly elected captain, has mentioned attempting to persuade Erling Haaland to join Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer.

Over the past several seasons, Haaland has become one of Europe’s most productive centre forwards, and after making it known that he would be leaving Dortmund, he attracted a lot of transfer interest.
Odegaard has acknowledged that he attempted to convince Haaland to join him at the Emirates before the 22-year-old ultimately decided to join Manchester City in a £63 million transfer.

However, his transfer to Manchester City allowed Arsenal to sign Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, who was surplus to requirements.
Speaking to talkSPORT he said:
He’s a great guy, great player and I think unfortunately for us he will be a great signing for Manchester City. For sure, he will score some goals.
I wish him all the best except for when we play them. It will be fun to see him in England.
When all the Arsenal fans were posting pictures of him and me I would send it to him. I tried, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough… he just laughed.
