A poll of football fans chose Thierry Henry as the Premier League’s greatest ever player.
In advance of the Premier League’s 30th anniversary, Betfair partnered with YouGov to poll over 1,000 football fans to determine the best player of the Premier League era.
Arsenal legend Henry won the award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, with the Frenchman receiving 15% of the vote.
In 258 Premier League appearances, the former striker scored 175 goals and led Arsenal to two league titles, including the much-heralded invincible season in 2003-04.
Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United finished second, with the 45-54 age group voting for the Portuguese international more than any other player. Ronaldo has 102 goals in 226 Premier League appearances and won three consecutive Premier League titles with Manchester United from 2006 to 2009.
Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer, finished third, with Eric Cantona and Steven Gerrard rounding out the top five. During his glittering career, the legendary striker notched 260 Premier League goals, more than 50 more than second-place all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney (208).
Aston Villa manager and former Liverpool captain Gerrard finished fifth, receiving more than double the votes of Mohamed Salah among Reds fans.
After scoring 156 goals in 254 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, the Egyptian international finished seventh in the voting.
