Humble Beginnings
Rory McIlroy came into this world on the 9th day of May 1989. As the only child of his parents, he spent majority of his childhood at Holywood, County Down ( Northern Ireland), where he lived. Rory McIlroy interest in golf was instilled in him by his father at a really young age. His father, who is a former golfer himself bought a young Rory McIlroy a golf club.
The golf club became his favorite present as he even went to bed with the golf club still in his grips. Soon he started asking his father to take him to the Holywood Golf Club. His father listened and enrolled him at the golf club at the age of 7, thus becoming the youngest member at the club.
Turning Professional
After winning several Amateur golf championships and setting several individual records, he decided to turn professional. So on 18th September 2007, Rory McIlroy turned professional at age 18, playing in the European tour. Right after turning professional, he signed with a sports management agency called International Sports Management.
McIlroy failed to win any title in his first 3 years of turning professional. But this changed in 2011 when he won his first major championship; in the form of the U.S Open.
