‘I’ve condemned him previously but he’s shown maturity’: Garth Crooks congratulates Xhaka and retracts critism naming him in his team of the week

Garth Crooks, former professional footballer, praised Granit Xhaka for his outstanding performances against Tottenham.

Crooks has previously called the Swiss an ‘overly aggressive and arrogant player who lacks discipline.’ However Crooks has had a change of mind after witnessing Xhaka’s performance in the North London derby.

Arsenal defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 thanks to a goals from Granit Xhaka, Jesus and Thomas Partey. Garth Crooks was highly impressed with Xhaka’s performance, showering on him praises in his BBC column. Crooks wrote:

“It’s not that long ago I was condemning Granit Xhaka for his lack of discipline, especially in the big games for Arsenal.

“Now I find myself congratulating him for his conduct and professionalism. I was particularly taken by the way he corralled his team-mates after Arsenal’s first goal against their north London rivals, in an attempt to retain an element of composure in the red-hot atmosphere.”
